Japan's Bubble, Deflation, and Long-term Stagnation

This course is offered to students who are interested in Japanese economy or finance in general to develop a general understanding of the present situation and characteristics of Japanese financial systems. It consists mainly of lecture. At the end of each class, questions pertinent to the subject at the time will be asked to check your level of understanding, and your answers will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class. At the last class, what is the ideal financial system in Japan will be discussed.
この講義は、日本経済あるいは金融全般について関心がある学生に対し、日本の金融システムの現状と特徴について基本的な理解を深めるものです。主として講義形式で行います。毎回の講義の終了時に、その回の講義の内容についての学生の理解を確認するための質問を出し、各自の回答を次の回でフィードバックして理解を深める手法を取ります。最後の講義では、日本の金融システムのあるべき姿について議論します。

The objective of this course is to learn to explain about the basic mechanism of the Japanese financial system and to discover what the recent issues about the system are and why.
日本の金融システムの基本的なメカニズムについて理解した内容を説明できるようになること、現行のシステムの問題点とそれがなぜ生じているかを各自が理解できることを目標とします。

You are recommended to acquire very basic knowledge of finance or banking business

毎回配布されるパワーポイント資料をもとに30分以上復習に時間をかけて下さい。

a particular textbook will not be used. Materials will be distributed at the beginning of each class.
特定の教科書は使用せず、毎回資料を配布します。

Selective reference will be given on the first day of class　
講義の初めに紹介します。

Exams not done during regular exam period.　
定期試験は実施しません。

The final grade will be calculated according to the following factors
1) attendance/participation in discussion (30%)
2) a paper on a subject on a specific topic of your choice throughout course (70%)
毎回の授業内容のなかから自由にテーマを選定して作成するレポート（70%)と、出席状況や毎回与える課題に対する取り組み姿勢等で評価する受講態度等（30％）で総合的に評価します。
