We live in a market economy and consume goods and services for daily life. In a market economy, we make decisions and those decisions affect the economy as a whole. In this course, we look at aspects of Japanese economy. Then we examine how the market economy works for people by observing the process of making goods from raw materials and trading those goods and services, and additionally
discussing the market failures. Following these discussions, we learn about the demand and supply,
the market equilibrium, and then the efficiency and equity of competitive markets.
我々は、市場機構を活用し、日々暮らしに必要なものを獲得しています。また、市場経済の下で我々は様々な意思決定を行い、これらの意思決定が経済全体に影響を及ぼしています。そこで、この講義では、まず、日本経済のいくつかの要素を概観します。続いて、市場経済がどのように機能するかについて、原材料が生産過程を通じて商品となり、それが流通・販売される過程をもとに調べたうえで、市場機構の限界について議論します。最後に、需要と供給、市場均衡、競争均衡の効率性と公平性についての理解を深めます。なお、この授業では原則として英語しか使用しません。

Introduction to Economy
経済入門

At the end of each class, you may preview topics to be covered in the next class or be given reading
assignments of materials to further your understanding of the next class. Before the class, please
spend at least 30 minutes to prepare for the class by looking up unfamiliar terms and words in advance based on the preparation information.　
授業では、次に行う講義の予習情報や理解を深めるための課題を渡すことがあります。受講前には、予習情報に基づいて、分からない用語・単語を事前に調べるなど、30分以上かけて予習して下さい。

There is no textbook. Material will be distributed to students accordingly.
教科書は使用せず、必要な資料を適宜配布します。

Final exam will be administered during Exam Week.　定期試験を行います。

Grades will be evaluated by ① Final Exam (60%) and ② Mid-term Quiz (40%).
①定期試験60%、②小テスト40%として総合的に評価します。
Feedback of Mid-term Quiz will be give the following week or at the end of each session.
各パートの小テストの解答は翌週もしくは各パートの終了時に行います。

It is important that you make your best effort to attend every class and not be late. This is NOT a
language course so with that in mind. We hope you will strive to improve your command of English
economics vocabulary. There is no minimum level of English proficiency to take this course. You only
need to be motivated and meet the challenge of taking a basic economics course in a language other
than Japanese.
授業には毎回出席し、遅刻をしないよう心掛けてください。この授業は語学の授業ではなく、英語で経済学の用語を理解し活用できるようになることを期待しています。英語運用能力水準を特に設けていませんので、英語による基礎的な経済学のコースにチャレンジする意欲のみが必要となります。
