In this course, we will focus on structures and issues of the global economy, looking into economic situations of major countries in the world. In doing so, we compare countries from a variety of macro-economic statistics such as national accounts, balance of payments statistics and other multilateral data. In addition, we will identify achievements of the globalization of economies such as free trade and economic partnership agreements as well as economic and currency integration while discussing its negative aspects such as the world-wide contagions of currency and financial crises as well as widening gaps between rich and poor.
I will evaluate your presentations during the class and return your reports at the next class with my comments.
授業では、世界主要国の経済状況を検討しつつ、グローバル経済の構造や課題に焦点を当てる。この際、国民経済計算、国際収支統計、資金循環統計といったマクロ経済統計を用いつつ、定量的な国際比較を行う。
また、自由貿易・経済連携協定や経済・通貨統合の進展といった、経済のグローバル化の具体的成果の内容を整理するとともに、世界的な通貨・金融危機の発生と伝播、貧富の格差の拡大といった、負の側面についても議論する。
プレゼンテーションの評価は授業中に、提出されたレポートは、翌週の授業でコメントを付けて返却する。

Acquire the knowledge and understanding of structures/issues of the global economy as well as the logic and analytical skills to analyze the economies of foreign countries. Improve presentation skills by researching and presenting a country’s economy.
グローバル経済の構造や課題についての知識・理解を獲得し、海外諸国の経済を分析するための論理的思考力・分析力を身に付ける。また、特定の国の経済について調査・発表することによりプレゼンテーション能力を高める。

You will be required to read assigned five papers and prepare a presentation. To read papers, you need more than one hour. To prepare a presentation, you need more than three hours.

Exams not done during regular exam period.

The evaluation is based 50 percent on your presentation of a specific country’s economic situation and 50 percent on your reports of assigned papers. I will not give you the opportunity of presenting your research unless you attend other students’ presentations.
特定の国の経済問題を取り上げたプレゼンテーションが50％、提供を受けた論文についてのレポートが50％。なお、他の学生のプレゼンテーションに参加しない学生には、プレゼンテーションの機会を与えない。

IMF、OECDといった国際機関や日本銀行調査統計業務・海外事務所での勤務経験を踏まえ、国際会議等で議論の対象となっている事項を取り上げる。

Japanese students and regular matriculating international students interested in taking this course must have TOEIC 500+ English proficiency (or equivalent).
