授業内容
This course is restricted to international exchange students from Sister-schools and NIBES partner institutions. The objective of this course is to offer academic assistance in research pertaining to Japan that is not covered by the courses offered in the Short-Term Exchange Program. Enrollment into this course will depend on the topic of the project which he/she submits. Approval of the research outline proposal will be decided by the prospective adviser.

In completing the research paper, the student is expected to attain:
1) basic skills in research; 2) knowledge of the specific research topic chosen; 3) skills in problem-solving and presenting issues effectively. 授業計画
An outline of the research project proposal must be submitted and approved for acceptance into the course. The course schedule will be decided on after the approval of the student's project proposal.
After acceptance of the proposal, the course schedule will, in general, be established in the following manner. The first class will be devoted to deciding on resources to be used, interviews to be done and course scheduling. The following weeks will be devoted to discussions of readings and submission of chapters to be written. A mid-term presentation will be required at around the 9th meeting. Thereafter, discussion will continue on the progress of the research paper. In the 15th meeting, the student will be required to give a final presentation on the research paper topic, and the completed research paper shall be submitted at the last meeting. 関連科目

準備学習等の指示
Research project outlines should be submitted one week before registration of classes begin.
Because this course is based on independent research and writing a research paper, substantial research time outside of the normal class hours will be required (approximately 6+ hours week). 教科書

Supplementary material and readings will be provided after the student has decided on his/her topic of research.

Exams not done during regular exam period.
成績評価の方法
Grades will be evaluated by:
1) meetings and mid-term presentation (30%) of the research in progress; 2) submission of a final 30-page research paper (70%). 実務経験と授業との関連
