This course is an examination of the structure, conduct, and performance of American industry using economic techniques of analysis. It will also focus on the history of U.S. antitrust laws. The course will involve lectures, antitrust cases, current events, readings, exams, and class discussion.

成績評価の方法
The student’s grade will be based on two exams (midterm (30%) and final (30%)), in-class exercises (30%), and class participation (10%). Each exam is worth 100 points and consists of multiple choice, short answer questions, and problems. Make-up exams will be given only to students with a VALID EXCUSE such as illness or death in the family or if cleared ahead of time (notify instructor well before the test date). The final exam is not comprehensive. There will be no make-up for missed in-class exercises. In-class exercises and participation are opportunities for extra credit.

The instructor has 40 years of academic teaching experience in the U.S. and abroad (Japan, Taiwan, France, and Iraq). His research work has also focused on industry and firm behavior, market concentration, and economic growth.
